  49. The antenna is the exact opposite of what you want. The F-22 (and all gain
  50. verticals) get their gain by concentrating the signal toward the horizon.
  51. The problem is that MIR is UP, not at the horizon! Don't feel alone, when
  52. I worked at HRO, this would happen with someone once a day at least.

  54. Try an antenna called a "Crossed Dipole". I used one for years for MIR
  55. and Sarex. It points up toward the satellites. For a good description, look
  56. in the Satellite Experimenters Handbook for it.

  64. Here some advices, to get started quickly:
  65.  
  66. 1) get a satellite tracking program from an FTP site, get
  67. the orb. data from the Newsgroup, and tune one of your scanners
  68. to 137.620 MHz  or 137.750 (not sure on the 2nd one) for the NOAA 
  69. satelites. Use an out door antenna though.
  70.  
  71. 2) When you receve a good sig, get the program JVFAX, ver. 7,
  72. and a faxconverter. (there are some vy simple designs around,
  73. also for the WX sats, the JVFAX manual might help).
  74.  
  75. 3) Once it works, you might want to use a proper antenna (eg.
  76. turnstile) and a preamp...

  97. Excellent advice. If those books get you hooked then you could do worse than 
  98. join Amsat (don't have the US address). In the meantime, tune your 2m FM 
  99. receiver to 145.825 and listen for Dove DO-17 (I haven't been following it 
  100. recently so it may be temporarily off again).

  118. Code 500 at Goddard Space Flight Center has established an Online Information 
  119. Server (OLIS) to allow remote users browsing current Blue Books and 
  120. Green Books through Internet.  These Recommendations have been prepared
  121. by the Consultative Committee for Space Data Systems (CCSDS).
  122.  
  123. The OLIS provides many access and retrieval methods (e.g., WAIS, FTP, 
  124. Gopher, Mosaic).  Regardless of platform used (e.g., Mac, PC, Unix), a 
  125. remote user can download text file of various CCSDS Blue Books and Green 
  126. Books.   Postscript format of these documents is also available for 
  127. remote user who does not have the same word processing application 
  128. software that was used to create the original document.

  130. Document in its native format (e.g., Word) can also be retrieved.

  161.    I am looking for an MS-DOS based satellite tracking program which
  162. will produce a tabular prediction *text file* output for "visible" passes.

  164.    There is one hitch.....the output, in addition to AOS/LOS times and
  165. Alt/Az info, *** MUST contain the ORBIT NUMBER for each pass. ***

  167.    I have tried STSPLUS and TRACKSAT, and neither of these give me that
  168. information in their "analytical" modes....

  170.    I need this information to assist me in cataloging of NOAA imagery I
  171. am now receiving.  Right now I am entering this information manually
  172. (and it takes a fair chunk of time!), but I want to automate the process
  173. in the very near future.

  211. You can can also ftp FAQSAT.TXT from the ARRL info site.They can be retrieved 
  212. from oak.oakland.edu pub/hamradio/arrl/infoserver
  213. Or if you only have e-mail you can send mail to info@arrl.org, in the body of 
  214. the text it should contain only the file name then quit on a seperate line. In 
  215. this case; send faqsat.txt
